Turbofan wheel covers were born on the racetrack. Through the 1970s and ’80s, they appeared on cars like the Porsche 917/30, Lancia Delta S4 and BMW’s E34 M5, using turbine-style blades to pull cooling air across hot brakes. Racing series eventually banned them, but their look became an icon of the era. I set out to design my own set, combining that period motorsport character with a modern, manufacturable design. I managed the project from start to finish, from research and ideation through CAD and 3D printed test parts, to working with overseas manufacturers to bring the final covers into production.
